Manifestations

2009

This project was funded by a Community Artists Assistance Program Grant.

This project was organized as a multi-layered method of creating meaning and representation. The project began by placing a 22x30" piece of paper in a public place with a sign that invited passers-by to 'Please Contribute' Once that paper was brought back into the studio, I cut the paper into 26 4x6" sections. This constituted an alphabet. Each image was numbered and labeled with a subject that was personally relevant. Then, each piece was considered as an object that was going to hold a process of manifestation. Manifestation, as it was employed here, was a meditative act of contemplating a subject and seeking to psychologically impose my will on an outcome. The aim here was to orient the project in a wishful thinking mindset and see what unfolded. The images were then created with a front, a back and a piece of writing that was designed to encompass the subject and the process of the manifestation. This project was exhibited in October, 2009. Within the exhibition, the front of the painting was presented alongside the writing. The backside of each image was not exhibited. Also, included was an appendix. The appendix was a collection of imagery that further elaborated on some of the writing and in some cases showed the source material for some aspect of the project. Below is the complete collection of the front and backside of the paintings and the writing.
